HALAL Accreditation

There are a lot of questions about the long-needed halal certification and logos of the Muslim world. We wanted to answer these questions in a snap:
The demand for products produced in accordance with Islamic conditions is increasing day by day. We see that Halal Certificate, which is a kind of assurance of production according to Islamic conditions, has been questioned by Muslims in many world countries, especially in Europe, in recent years.

It is very important that products produced according to Islamic methods also meeting  food safety criteria. In this context, a controlled and systematic inspection is required by people who are experts in food production / processing and related Islamic provisions for Halal product assurance.
According to the definition of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), accreditation is the independent evaluation of conformity assessment bodies, namely certification bodies that will perform Halal certification, according to recognized standards to ensure their impartiality and competence. Therefore, accreditation requires an authorization according to ISO / IEC 17021 or ISO / IEC 17065 under the IAF framework.

Any of halal logos in Turkey or in other countries are accredited. Since there is no accreditation, all the institutions that provide halal certificates have established procedures according to themselves and have made the certification accordingly.

In Turkey, Halal Accreditation Body (HAK) has been established and it started to accept the applications.

Untill all the accreditation rules have been settled , following should be taken into consideration when to select a certification body :

  • if this certification body has accreditation for at least one recognised scheme or standard
  • if the auditors are qualified for doing HALAL audit considering also food safety matters
  • if this CB provides a detailed audit report showing evidences of conformity as well as that of non-conformities
  • if this certification has a sensitivity and respect to HALAL rules
